The Game: Our high-tech treasure hunt equips each team with its very own Global Positioning System satellite navigation receiver. Ever team member will get the chance to use this fun piece of advanced technology. Getting lost becomes part of the fun, as the equipment is constantly updated from outer space to lead the team back on course.
We offer several versions of GeoTeaming. Pirates Ahoy! is currently the most popular. In this game, the legendary pirate Edward Teach has hidden his purloined riches in a series of well-hidden caches in your locale. Teams are given a faded copy of his treasure map, provides geographic coordinates for one of his buried chests of loot. With the help of their GPS units, teams punch in the coordinates and follow an arrow right to the spot.
This may sound easy, but Captain Teach was no fool -- each cache contains clues and puzzles for the location of the other stashes. The cunning captain figured these would be too difficult to solve for anyone who stumbled across them. But then, he never counted on teams as motivated and well-equipped as yours!
You’ll have to work quickly, as there’s rumored to be a rival team searching for the same treasures. Together, teams solve puzzles, collect prizes, and race to find the fabled motherlode of booty which awaits the most effective team.
Other fun GeoTeaming variations using GPS technology:
Build It: Teams are located in separate areas of a central base. Each one is assigned to build a machine that performs a specific purpose. The device is missing pieces, however, and must be reassembled. Coordinates are given to nearby locations (5 minute walk) where clues and parts are hidden. Some clues are false, some parts located do not fit the machine. Team members must overcome these obstacles and work together toward to accomplish their goal within the time limit. Whichever team assembles their device first and uses it to accomplish a given task wins. Puzzles can be created which will utilize different skills of different team members.
The Race: Several caches are hidden in a wide area. Caches contain a rubber stamp or a punch. Teams must log as many caches as possible in a given period of time for points. Well-hidden bonus caches are worth extra points. Caches may contain an offset -- a coded vector pointing them to the actual cache prize. Dummy caches waste time and energy for those who fall for them. Think fast-paced, furious outdoor action.
The Gaspra Effect: Fragments of a huge meteor have fallen to Earth. Pieces are scattered around the city. Operating in utmost secrecy, two teams from rival government agencies set out to collect the fragments, allegedly for humanitarian study. Actually, rumor has it that the meteor is composed of a rare and valuable material that many groups would kill to get their hands on. The retrieval team that collects the most fragments and assembles critical mass receives honor, prestige, and (naturally) federal funding. Clues are provided in the form of notes left by a preliminary field operative, and through interaction with local characters of dubious reputation.
Minimum/Maximum Group Size: Most suitable for teams of 6-8. Can easily accommodate multiple teams.
Program Length: Two to three hours.
Space Requirements: GeoTeaming can be done outdoors at a resort, in a city, at a conference center...anywhere on Earth!
